November brings the Bridport Festival
and the Celebration of Student Achievements Event

This years Bridport Festival took place on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of November at Bridlington Spa and featured acts and performances from many different cultures and backgrounds in what was a fantastic celebration of diversity.

The Freedom Road Collective's Sammie and Danielle joined Molly, Stevie, Rowan, Jason and Lindsey, to form this years Rhythm Pixies. Working with Donna Smith and Lyn Hubbard the Rhythm Pixies produced 3 brilliant and diverse pieces of music; a Middle Eastern piece entitled "Al Kratch"; an Indian piece entitled "Dahee Maatyarr", and a traditional African song called "Shosholoza".

For Sammie and Danielle this was something of a new experience and one that they thoroughly enjoyed and one which will enable them to continue developing. Funded by Music 4 U, the band went down a storm and the 60 or so people who caught the performance certainly showed their appreciation with rapturous applause!!

The 2nd event was that of the Celebration of Student Achievements for Children in Care Event, which was held at Hull Colleges' "Horncastle Building", on Monday 7th November. It was the turn of the Gleeks to represent the Collective on this occasion, and with new members Stephen and Emily on board, the group performed two tracks, Bruno Mars' "Marry Me" and old favourite "Your Song".

There was a guest speaker on the night that spoke about young people needing to grasp opportunities that come their way. He said that these often lead to very positive experiences that help in young people's personal and social development and also helps them recognise their abilites. The Gleeks are an example of just this; Young People who have taken the opportunity to meet and rehearse on a regular basis; taken advice and guidance from Lisa Billany and as a result have produced something very special. Well done Guys!!!
