NEWS 26 August 2016

Happy 10th Birthday TRIBFEST!

2016 was Tribfest's 10 year anniversary and promised to be the best yet as we again descended on Sledmere House for the weekend.

With some new bands and singers on the line-up for the Under 20's/FRCA stage this year, and with the opportunity to see the development of the regulars all in one place, there was an air of excitement sweeping through the camp.

Sam Bishop and Elizabeth Pickering; two of the hardest working and hugely talented young artists on the acoustic scene, Rectifier; an exciting new rock band who narrowly missed out on winning this year's Hull Daily Mail Battle of the Bands competition, and The Queen Riots who treat us to a stripped back acoustic set, kicked us off with a storming Friday night!

Saturday saw Fiona Lee (check out her facebook page; new single coming out soon) open and she was followed by Rob and Eric aka Voodoo Dance Party, who's electronic/dance grooves had the Marquee tapping it's feet.

Imogen Hart followed with a set of self penned songs which included the superb 'Til We Grow Old and Burnt To Ashes, that demonstrated her quality song writing and performance ability

Emmie Craft, back into the FRCA fold after some time away studying was next up, and how we have missed her. Emmie's outstanding vocals filled the marquee and brought more and more people in to watch. Emmie also has the knack of getting the support of the FRCA staff and at the end of the set, the supporting Thompson 2 who had joined Emmie in the middle of the set, had grown to be the Thompson 3!!

Mia Codd, winner of the Mail's Juniour Search for a Star, took to the stage next and singing to a packed marquee showing just why she had won. It was great to meet you.

Two of the best young bands around in my opinion then took over for the evening shift with a sound full enough to compete with the Rave Tent next door; The Waives and punk band Organised K-Hos.Brilliant!!

And then it was Sunday. We started with Rhianna and Amelia who were at their first Tribby performing a range of songs accompanied by Liam and Iain. A benefit of running FRCA is meeting new young singers who want to progress and do more, and with Amelia and Rhianna we have met two young women prepared to rehearse and take on the advice given. Fabulous sets just showing how good they both are.

Snap Bak, aka Ollie and Tyler were next up performing a set of songs based around Tyler's strong vocals and Ollie's percussion skills. If this performance is anything to go by, these boys are going places. Superb!!

Amber Warren, another leading artists on the acoustic scene, showed just why she is so highly rated, delivering a set of her own songs and some covers that had been arranged in Amber's incredible style.

We don't have favourites, however I think we can all be excused for having that feeling about the group that came next.

The Freedom Road Collective are just ACE!! 20+ young people of all ages, coming together as a community with music at it's core on a Saturday morning to learn and rehearse.

Not only do we have singers, but we have guitarists, Cajon players, keyboardist's, ukulele players and bass players who make up the group and their set just took the roof off!!

Leila and Gracie followed; Leila with the Stone Roses's Made of Stone and Gracie with Valerie. Both will grow into confident solo performers and Tribfest 2017 will show that.

A FRCA legend; Emily Halsey - musician, singer and glitter beard stylist, joined the fun next. It was good to see Emily again and she did a small set that showed that she still has what it takes.

And then it was almost over. Almost only for our final band - The Unwired Society. And what a performance. Lead singer and guitarist Dylan Burton along with Lauren England on drums, Rob Moses (again) on bass and at times Green Day's tribute band Green Date's lead singer and guitarist Joe Sunday, they closed our time at Tribfest 16 in style!!

A fabulous weekend with fabulous staff, fabulous volunteers and most of all fabulous young people.

Let's do it all again in 2017!!
