Stars in Your Eyes 4 raises over £1000

The annual Stars in Your Eyes fundraiser this year generated just over £1000 for the charity, as artists such as Rhianna, Adele, Pink and eventual winner Morrisey, took to the stage at the Springhead Pub on November 18th. Backed by the fantastic band Discretion, over 100 people attended in what proved to be a thoroughly entertaining night.

To begin the evening several of the young people, who access FRCA performed a series of acoustic cover versions to demonstrate their growing confidence and talent. Ruth, Rose, Sammie, Luke, Lou, Emmy, Olivia and Danielle were awesome, and the feedback from the audience certainly echoed that sentiment.

To open the competition Ed Faulkner performed as Paul Heaton with the Housemartins' classic "Caravan of Love". Ed was followed by Freedom Roads' very own Jess Hunter who was making her debut in the competition. Performing Pinks' "Leave me Alone I'm Lonely", Jess showed her increasing vocal development and went down a storm.

Up next was eventual winner Jonny Calvert as Morrisey singing "This Charming Man". Armed with flowers and chest wig ??? Jonny, another newcomer to Stars, was brilliant. Following Jonny, was Jack Brown, whose version of Nirvanas' "Smells Like Teen Spirit" enabled Jack to not only impersonate Kirk Cobain, but to play the guitar like him. Jack is an amazing talent, and please look out for his band "The Black Delta Movement" who are making a name for themselves locally.

To finish the first half off in style, we had Niki Billany, returning to the competition as Cheryl Cole. Singing "Fight for This Love", Niki really looked the part with a cool costume, and she reminded us of what we missed last year with a great vocal performance.

The break provided us with the opportunity to introduce the very funny stand up comic Lucy Beaumont. Lucy who is from Hull, finished in 3rd place at this years Edinburgh Festivals' "So You Think You're Funny" competition. Thanks Lucy!!

The 2nd half was opened by ex winner and ever present Molly Brown, who always delivers with some magical performances. This year was no different as Molly performed Adele's "Rollin in the Deep". Next was Lou Spellman, who is another ever present in the competition and a huge supporter of the charity and its aims, performing "Black Horse in a Cherry Tree" by Kt Tunstall. Complete with acoustic guitar Lou again proved a huge hit!

The penultimate act was Fiona Whitely, who stepped in at the last minute to become our 5th debutant on the evening singing Pixie Lotts' version of "Use Somebody". With only a few days to prepare Fiona did a cracking job and we hope to see her back next year. The night was brought to a close with Lisa Billany as Rhianna. Singing "S&M", Lisa, who puts so much effort and preparation into the Stars night, this year even dying her hair Rhianna Red, was as always fantastic!!

So that was it, and after the public voted and the Judges, Iain, Katie and Andy had deliberated, Jonny Calvert as Morrisey was declared to the Stars in You Eyes 2011 winner!! Thanks must go to Andy, Robbo, Sam and Dave for providing the support, without whom this wouldn't happen, and to all who attended.
