Teenage Cancer Trust Fund Raising Event

On Thursday 28th March, Freedom Road Creative Arts in partnership with RAPP and Liam's Fund, held a fundraising event at the John McCarthy Bar at Hull University in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

It was the first large event of the year for the various projects involved and offered an opportunity for the young people to showcase their talents to a big audience while at the same time raising money for a worthwhile cause in memory of Liam Baldry who lost his brave battle against Cancer just over a year ago. Since Liam's passing £1000's has being raised for the Teenage Cancer Trust by Liam's family; Val, Keith and Becky through Liam's Fund.

The night began with the brilliant Shivna Irish Dancers from Hull who are rapidly gaining a reputation for being Hull's finest Irish Dance Group as they wowed the crowd with some amazing footwork and timing.

The Dancers were followed by Mitchell Skelton who performed a street dance he had personally choreographed and young up and coming drummer Kieran Clark.

The Freedom Road Collective, several young people who attend the Youth Music sessions that FRCA provide on a Tuesday and Saturday, then performed a series of short sets which gave more established members; Shauna, Danielle, Liv, Rose, Jess and Sammie a chance to get back into the groove of performing live, and for the new members; namely Effy, Georgia and Jess the opportunity to get on stage some for the first time.

The night finished with a brilliantly polished performance by one of Hull's best new young bands, The Shed Club, who are starting to emerge on the local music scene with a growing reputation. 5 friends from the North of the City who mixed original material with some covers. If you get the opportunity make sure you catch them! The Shed Club will be headlining the FRCA Under 20's Marquee at Tribfest on the Saturday 17th August.

FRCA and RAPP would like to say a huge thank you to all those involved in making the night a success; Well Done! and in particular to the wonderful Baldry Family.

So now the focus for FRCA shifts to this years Rock Challenge which takes place on June 5th at Hull New Theatre as well as continuing to support the singers and musicians in developing their sets which will grace the stages of many of the local festivals this summers.
